Feeding Liverpool in a World in Energy Crisis - A Transition Liverpool Symposium

There are an amazing array of local food projects in Liverpool at the moment, and this event brought together over 60 attendees representing 22 different organisations, as well as interested individuals, to discuss how to support the further development and upscaling of local food in Liverpool.
There were a number of different activities over the course of the day. We opened the meeting with a short introduction to Transition Liverpool and an overview of food projects currently in Liverpool. After introducing ourselves and discussing our expectations for the day we then used Open Space to identify the issues that were of most concern to the attendees. The rest of the session before lunch was spent discussing these issues, with the aim of proposing practical projects in response. After lunch, attendees gave feedback on all the proposed projects and then worked in smaller groups to start sketching out next steps. Twelve projects in all were developed and notes from these are available below:
  • Community Skill Share
  • Ecobalance
  • Education
  • Growing More Vegetables for Community Trade
  • Stop Toxic Gas Extraction
  • Growing More Food in Liverpool
  • Fruit Trees in Public Places
  • Create Community Forest Garden
  • Food Waste
  • Countering Tescopoly
  • Renewable Energy

If you are interested in helping support any of the projects feel free to contact the project champion, or email theteam@transitionliverpool.org and we can put you in touch with the relevant people.

Thanks to everyone for coming along, and to the Liverpool Quakers and the Liverpool Primary Care Trust for supporting the event.
