January’s Transition Cafe didn’t exactly turn out as we planned. We planned to watch the film Food Inc but technology was not on our side so we shared some wholesome conversation after our wholesome supper instead. 

This time last year we hosted a Wellbeing event which invited the community to focus their thoughts on how we can cultivate a greater sense of wellbeing in our individual lives, among our communities and in nature. This month, around 20 of us, mostly new faces, came coiled for action and a sense of adventure about how Transition Liverpool could be a place to express their concerns and their hopes, to deepen their understanding of the changes we can make, and to grow a sense of connection with the community.

Meeting over shared food allows us to build trust which is an important step in the process to making sustainable change. 

This Months Menu

  • Carrot and Coriander soup made with Lancashire grown carrots (bought in Aldi because our organic grower was not available to make the soup this time)
  • Steph’s Homemade Cornmeal and Butternut Squash Savoury Muffins with feta and sundried tomato
  • George’s Homemade Yummy Tea loaf 
  • Margaret’s Locally Grown Plum Crumble and custard 
  • Lots of hummus and crisps and other snacks

Our cultural identities spanned across New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland and England which meant our views were more diverse and enriched our shared experience.

Together we shared our news, views, concerns and hopes about how life could be as humanity transitions from Oil Dependency to a more locally and ethically sourced lifestyle. 

Ideas discussed covered food poverty, other transition projects, community growing, health and wellbeing, local food, renewable energy, digestive health, supporting our intentions, UN Sustainable Development Goals, More recycling in the city, mapping food ecology, food on a budget, making your own oat milk, skills shares, expert evening, transition streets. 

A few people mentioned they were interested in getting more involved with Transition either to help organise the events, make food for the cafe events or some new initiatives.
